Dual Citizenship

Greetings!

After the election on Tuesday many Christians have expressed their disappointment in the outcome and in the direction that our country is going. I would have to say that I am disappointed in many ways as well, although there were some positive things, particularly in our part of the state. I want to offer you some encouragement today in spite of what we see going on in our country.

Philippians 3:20 says, “For our citizenship is in Heaven, from which we also eagerly wait for the Savior, the Lord Jesus Christ”. Ephesians 2:19 says, “Now, therefore, you are no longer strangers and foreigners, but fellow citizens with the saints and members of the household of God”. These verses and others tell us that we are not only citizens of this country, but we are also citizens of Heaven and members of God’s family. Second Corinthians 5:20 tells us that we are “ambassadors for Christ”.

I think it is great to be patriotic and to love our country, but we must also realize that we have a citizenship that is even greater than being a citizen of the U.S.A. We must realize that God will take care of us now matter how bad things may get on this earth, even in our country. We have a covenant with God through the blood of the Lord Jesus Christ. He will never leave us nor forsake us.

The kingdoms of this earth will all pass away eventually. When the rapture happens and the church is taken up to Heaven, things are going to get really dark on the earth in a hurry. We must continue to be salt and light in our country, even if we are doing it as a minority group at this point, instead of the majority as our founders desired. Our primary goal should be to advance the Kingdom of God and take as many people to Heaven with us as we can.

Remember, we have nothing to fear as God’s covenant people. As the darkness gets greater in the earth there are more opportunities to shine the light of Jesus to a lost and dying world. Let’s take advantage of those opportunities and reap a large harvest here in our country right up until our Savior comes to take us home!

God bless,

Pastor Jeff
