Making the Most of Summer

Dear Church Family,

Now that Memorial Day weekend has come and gone it seems that summer has unofficially arrived again this year. I want to encourage each of you to make the most of your summer. We can enjoy family time, vacations, reunions, and all the other things that come with summer and still grow in our walk with God and make a difference for His kingdom.

I believe it takes a balanced approach to life to not go to extremes. I like summertime and the outdoors as much as anyone. When I was a kid I would be outdoors much of the summer. Let’s not forget our commitment to God and our church family as we enter this season which many of us greatly enjoy.

Our family will be going to Kansas City to Worlds of Fun and Oceans of Fun this summer for a little getaway. I also like to play ball with the kids and go on walks with Pastor Rebecca. Recently I have started doing a little golfing with Phil Crosse and Michael. As a kid I never thought I would like the sport. It is more fun than I thought it would be.

In the midst of all the things I enjoy about summer I have made a commitment to always keep God first. All the great men and women of God that I have ever known have had the ability to keep God in His proper place in their lives no matter what season of life they were in. That is part of being a well balanced person.

A Scripture that often comes to my mind during summer if I get busy with things or am doing outdoor things that I enjoy is Psalm 42:1. It says the following, “As the deer pants for the water brooks, so pants my soul for You O God”. Like the psalmist I have a great inner thirst that is only quenched by God!

God bless,
Pastor Jeff
