Shaping Our Nation

I want to take this opportunity to encourage each of you concerning our God given opportunity to shape our nation for the better. Jesus told His disciples in Matthew 5:14, “You are the light of the world…” That is still true today. The disciples of Jesus are to be the light of the world.

Our nation has been heading in the wrong direction morally for many years and we are now seeing the effects of it in many ways. Psalm 33:12 says, “Blessed is the nation whose God is the Lord.” Proverbs 14:34 says, “Righteousness exalts a nation, but sin is a reproach to any people.” Charles Finney once said, “The church must take right ground in regard to politics…The time has come for Christians to vote for honest men…God cannot sustain this free and blessed country, which we love and pray for, unless the Church takes right ground.”

One of the ways in which we must be a light is by voting for people who are upright and who stand for things that line up with the Word of God. People who do not honor God’s Word should not be retained in office or voted into office. If we as a church allow that to happen then we are not honoring God and we are not acting as a unified force to shape our nation in a way that will cause it to be blessed for years to come. The church has been silent for too long on matters of national importance. We must not stay silent on matters that matter to us and to God. We need to be talking to others about what God’s view is on different issues, and we certainly need to let our voice be heard by voting.

Georg Jean Nathan once said, “Bad politicians are elected by good people who don’t vote.” Ronald Reagan said, “Freedom is never more than one generation away from extinction. We didn’t pass it to our children in the bloodstream. It must be fought for, protected, and handed on for them to do the same, or one day we will spend our sunset years telling our children and our children’s children what it was once like in the United States where men were free.” Reagan also said, “We must act today in order to preserve tomorrow.”

Let’s join other Christians across our state and throughout our nation and let our voices be heard on November 2. Let’s let the world know that righteousness matters in America because there is a church that is alive and well and shining the light of Jesus.
